Requirements at Gatwick for importations of animals for Crufts or by private importers or breeders.
As per instructions from HM Customs and Excise the following animals are
excluded from the Tax Free Pet Scheme:
1. Animals entering the UK for Crufts
2. Private Importers, Importing Animals for Breeding or Resale, who
have not previously owned in the Country of Origin.
3. Owners who have purchased the pets from abroad but are not moving
their normal home from abroad and reside in the UK.
For the above importers we do NOT need the C5 form completed.
You will need to do a Pro Forma invoice for Customs Purposes and it must
state the following information:
A full name and address in the United States and also a full name and
address in the United Kingdom.
You must show a landing value and this must be the value of your Pet plus
the value of the freight costs paid to Continental to ship your pet over.
You will then need to pay VAT at 17.5% of the value declared. Please note this amount can be put on deposit with HM Customs and be claimed on the return journey for Export, post entry fee will be GBP35.00.
The amount due will need to paid immediately and prior to collecting your
pet. Payment can be cash, credit or debit card.
