For any type of animal travel abroad, or if you are looking for a pet passport then The Pet Travel Scheme “PETS” is what you need. It has been developed to make the transportation of pets and animals between countries easier.
Countries have to be members of the Pet Travel Scheme for the passport to be effective as it allows pets to enter the country without undergoing quarantine. The Pet Passport itself is a document that records any information specifically related to the pet as part of that procedure and can greatly speed up the process of travelling abroad with your pets. It allows you to fast track through the system as the passport shows the authorities that your pet has gone through any of the tests that may pose a risk. This bypasses the infamous quarantine laws that some countries have had in place that requires a pet to be quarantined for up to 6 months when entering a country.
The Pet Passport Scheme can also be referred to as PETS or The Pet Travel Scheme and was originally introduced for the benefit of animals entering or returning to the United Kingdom from other European Union countries. On October 1, 2001, several European Union countries introduced the PETS scheme allowing pets and animals from any member country to travel freely (with the correct procedure) to any other member country on approved carriers. Over time the scheme has rolled out to other countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
